Hello! My teaching career began twelve years ago after completing the Multiple Subject Credential Program at CSU Long Beach. Prior to that I was a software engineer (I love solving problems!) for almost nine years. The computer industry is profitable, yes, but I grew tired of it and wanted to contribute more to the community and work with people rather than with code, numbers, and a machine. Little did I know that teaching is a much more difficult job! Like most things that are more difficult, though, it is more rewarding. I hope to have a positive impact on my students' lives, specifically to instill a love of learning and a clear sense of right and wrong.
I grew up in Redondo Beach, California, and am the youngest of thirteen children. Both my parents (who have passed, God bless their souls) were born on Guam. I mention that because I am often asked about my ethnicity. Technically that makes me Chamorro, although my father's grandfather was Spanish (hence my last name) and my mother's grandfather was Welsh and French. (In case you're wondering, I don't speak Spanish, unfortunately.)
I love to sew (mostly quilts) and day-hike. I'm an avid reader, when I have time. I was terribly shy as a child but have learned over a long time that in order to reach goals, I have to stick myself out there. At heart, though, I'm an introvert.
I am honored and blessed to be teaching at St. Gregory the Great School. The sense of family and faith here is palpable. The staff is extremely supportive, collaborative, and dedicated to the spiritual, emotional, and educational lives of the students. The students and parents are terrific! They're friendly, helpful, and respectful. This is a great place to be and I hope I live up to other teachers' examples and your expectations.
