Important Allergy News!
This year in Kindergarten we will be a peanut-free room! One of our kiddos has an allergy to peanuts so please do not send your kids with any snack or lunch that has peanut butter or anything made on equipment that has also been exposed to nuts.
Classroom Rules
Classroom rules promote order and safety for a proper learning environment. In addition, we will encourage kindness and good manners in the classroom and playground.
1. Be safe.
3. Keep hands and feet to yourself.
4. Be kind and respectful.
5. Listen and follow directions.
Discipline Plan
Students are expected to behave in a manner that does not prevent the teacher from teaching or a student from learning. At the end of the day each student who has followed the rules will take home a (paper) "flower token." When the student has collected 10 tokens, he/she can exchange them for something from the treasure box. When rules are broken, there are consequences:
iPads
This year our class will have 21 iPads in Kindergarten. These are the Apps we will use:
Homework
The purpose of homework is to reinforce classroom activities and instill responsibility.
Children should have a quiet (no T.V.), well-lit 'Homework Corner', well-stocked with pencils, crayons, glue, erasers, and scissors (no markers or pens please). This year I've decided on a weekly packet of homework rather than 1 or 2 pages going home every night (to be returned the next day.) Packets will be sent home on Mondays and will basically have 1 to 2 pages of practice work for each night. The packets are due on Friday and must be signed by a parent. I prefer that the packet remain in the homework folder to avoid being misplaced and also so that I may check it periodically. If your child is absent, the packet is not due until Monday. The first homework packet will go home the Tuesday after Labor Day.
Reading Log
Each month (starting in September) a Reading Log will be sent home. Please record the date and title each time you and your child read a book together. These are due on the first day of the following month. I take a group photo of that month’s “Reading Club” students and they receive a sticker on their log sheet.
Decodable Readers - A decodable reader will be sent home every day in a Zip Lock bag (starting in October.) Have your child read the story three times for nightly homework. The decodable reader and baggie MUST return to class everyday. When your child can read the decodable to me accurately, fluently, and with appropriate expression, he/she will be given the next decodable.
Uniform Policy
Please refer to the Parent / Student Handbook for detailed description of the uniform guidelines.
Mass Uniform: All students must wear the white buttoned down shirt and the royal blue sweater cardigan vest. Girls (k-3rd) wear Peter Pan Blouses. Black tie-up shoes are a part of the Mass uniform. Tennis shoes or sweatshirts are not permitted on Mass days (Fridays). Our school has added a tie as part our Mass uniform, but it is not mandatory for the lower grades (TK through 2nd).
P.E. Uniform: Please refer to the Parent / Student Handbook for the Physical Education uniform guidelines. The students will have physical education on Tuesdays and Thursdays, therefore please send your child in their P.E. uniform on both those days. The students need to come in their P.E. uniform starting the week of September 11th.
Uniform Infractions: Not meeting the uniform and/or grooming guidelines will affect his/her behavior grade. Three uniform infractions will result in after-school detention. Your cooperation in this matter and prompt action to adhere to the school's policies are appreciated.
Kindergarten Prayers
Students in Kindergarten are required to learn the following prayers: Sign of the Cross, the Lord's Prayer, Hail Mary, Morning Offering, Guardian Angel/Angel of God, Glory Be, and Prayer Before Meals/Grace. We will focus on one prayer per month which will be posted on this website under Curriculum.
Family Mass
Each month (usually the first Sunday) we gather together to celebrate Mass in the church at the 8:30 a.m. Please bring your children in their school mass uniform. Family Masses are posted in our school calendar.
The Star of the Week
The Star of the Week activity gives each student an opportunity to share information about their family and interests and for show and tell. Each week a student's name will be drawn from a baggie. When it's your child's turn to be the Star of the Week, please help your child fill out the questionnaire (which will be sent home the Monday prior to their week) and decorate a poster. Be as creative as you possibly can. Part of being the Star of the Week is learning to speak in front of the class. Each student will share and tell about their favorite things (food, sport, color, etc.) It's a good idea to have your child practice in front of you before sharing with the class. The Star of the Week may bring one item to share at the end of each day of their week. Pets are especially welcome on Fridays but please let me know early in the week so we can discuss the visit and arrange logistics if necessary.
Snack
You are responsible for supplying your child with a daily snack. The snack should be nutritious and healthy, e.g., fruits and/or vegetables, and include a drink. Please make sure your child knows what items are for snack and what items are for lunch. Last year we had an issue in that students were bringing a lot of items to eat for snack and since they felt they had to eat all of it, they would spend some of their play time eating. Please send your child with 1 or 2 items to eat so they can have more time to play.
Lunch
Hot lunches will be available starting in September. (I'll update this site as soon as I know.) Until then (and if you prefer, afterwards) please pack a daily nutritious lunch (No candy, chips, or soda). Students should bring only the amount of food they can eat. Late/forgotten lunches are to be placed on a cart outside the front office. Make sure to label the student's name and grade on it. Please let the front office know that you placed a late/forgotten lunch on the cart. If your child is going to participate in the after-school daycare, make sure to provide a second lunch and/or snack.

- First and Second Offense- a warning is given to the student
- Third Offense- the student sits 5 minutes on the bench for recess
- Fourth Offense- the student sits for the entire recess, has a conference with the teacher, takes a note home that must be signed by the parent and returned the following day, and does not receive a flower token.
